AI ART

My mom once told me that she is afraid of AI art because classical art made by humans will lose value. I would say that I’m pretty experienced user of technology since I almost uninstalled Windows when i was 3 years old. Throughout my whole life, I was always trying new stuff, reading and buying new technology, learning about neural machine learning like in 2015, etc. But also from a young age I was pretty good at art, I was winning awards for my art pieces in primary school and in high school too, I’m pretty confident in both skills so I was thinking a lot about AI. especially in using AI in art.

My answer to her was that I strongly disagree. I think that honest human work (in this topic art) will be always more valuable than some AI generated (btw really good looking) ‘’art’’. art was forever an expression of our emotions, memories, and thoughts. Art is deeply connected with our thinking, way of life and our expression of emotions… even in this hectic era. I told her this example… imagine an old lady that is suffering from a deadly disease, she raised 4 children, through her whole life she was trying to be a good mother, good wife, and good friend, it does not matter if she made some mistakes or if she was good mother, wife or friend… she was honestly trying and you believe her. Now she knows that her life will be no longer than 3 months, and through these 3 months, she is painting photo of her family from 20 years ago. Since she is old and not really well at this point, she made a lot of mistakes painting it, she was trying to express her feelings in a way that not everything in this painting is actually true perhaps her daughter does not have that long hair and never had and so on. She died in 2/3 of this painting on a bed with her last words for this word, how she loved her family and how much she is grateful for them. Imagine you stepping into the room, looking at her lying on the bed with one paper on the table. On the other side of the room is this not really good looking painting. You read the paper, look at her and then look at the painting. Unfortunately in the paper, you learned that all parts of her family died for some reason, so there is no one that you would like to give this painting to, now you look back at the painting … how big of a value this painting have for you? Would you like to have it in your house not that you know her feelings and you hold her expression in your hands? is it valuable more or less than 30 seconds of AI-generated masterpiece? After like 30 seconds of thinking she replied…. yes, I agree with you, honest human work in art always was and always will be more valuable than AI-generated art.

It is pretty obvious now that our society is getting to a point where AI will be everywhere, it is looking good, it is less time consuming, and probably cheaper too. I already know that honest art will be less valuable from now on for like 5-10 years, people will get used to it, but after some time they will be overfed with this fake behaviour and representation of art and they will start to appreciate again honest human work. If there is any ”humanity in us’’ this will happen. That’s one of the reasons why our pattern is really simple piece of art, it is something that 3 year old child could just draw. It is not about how good it looks, it is about what it represents and about honest value behind it. all of our photos and videos are made old school way, we are not using ai to enhance our way expressing art. But we sometimes we will be using ai softwares that will save us some time, but what you see is 100% of the composition of how it was recorded from the camera.

We believe that AI can be used in correct way but we need to find some middle ground so we don’t lose ‘’humanity in us’’. for now, this is our middle ground for using AI in our expressions. ‘’humanity in us’’ is a topic on its own that we can talk about.
